Obituary

James "Jim" Elmer McClane, 93, of Delano, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Life Care Center of Athens.

Born July 13, 1918, Mr. McClane grew up in Jefferson City, TN. He was a successful amateur boxer in his youth. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in Engineering. A World War II veteran, his first civilian job was on the first TVA dam near Jefferson City. After his tenure in the military, he worked for Oak Ridge, during the era of the development of the Manhattan Project. He later worked for the Union Carbide in New York, California and Colorado. While in Colorado, he and his wife worked with the ministry of Southern Baptist Spanish Mission in Grand Junction, Colorado. Mr. McClane was a devout Christian and served as a deacon in several churches. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Etowah until he went to live at Life Care Center of Athens. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Evelyn Tullock McClane; his brother Howard McClane; his sister, Hazel Cochran and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include son, Lloyd Douglas McClane of Knoxville; sister-in-law and her son and daughter, Billie McClane of Knoxville and Dennis and Diane McClane of Knoxville; brothers and sisters-in-law by marriage, John and Helen C. Tullock, Helen Tullock, Lois Miller and Janie Newman all of Delano and C. H. and Betty Sterling of Maryville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the South Chapel with Dr. David Tullock officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.

Interment to follow the service Wednesday at Delano Cemetery.
