Obituary

James C. Garren, otherwise known as Tuck, age 82, of Delano, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

Tuck grew up in Reliance and graduated from Polk County High School. He served in the Army and came back home to marry the love of his life, Chloey Poteet Garren. Tuck worked for L&N Railroad and Bowater then went into business for himself as a real estate broker and running Garren Realty for the rest of his life. He and Chloey lived in Delano where they raised cattle and a few dogs. They also built houses along with selling real estate their entire marriage.

Tuck has always been a highly accomplished man and hard worker all of his life. Accreditations of Business man of the year have been handed to him by the Etowah Chamber of Commerce. Working from sun up to sun down was the only way to work, according to him. His integrity and work ethic was one of a kind.

Preceded in death by father, Homer C Garren and mother, Wilma Lindner Garren; sister-in-law, Barbara Rogers Garren, brother-in-law,  Charles Patton; sister-in-law, Mayme Poteet Underwood; brother-in-law, Bill Poteet; brother-in-law, Fred Poteet; nephew, Gary Poteet.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 57 years, Chloey Poteet Garren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sue Garren, Ray and Kaye Garren; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Patton, Sarah and Ted Swafford; sister-in-law, Maxine Poteet Hunt; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Van Garren, Kelsey Swafford, Kile Swafford, Garren Bacon, Waylon Swafford, and Ethan Poteet.

The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice nurses Joanie, Avery and Lakelynn for their continued care and services. Also a special thank you to Kile, Holly, Kelly, Chloe, Sarah Jo, Ray, and Dawn for their daily love and care.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Pete Morgan officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at Delano Cemetery, Saturday, February 22nd for the 2:00 p.m. committal service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Delano Lions Club, 109 Carolina Avenue, Delano, TN 37325.
