James Gilbert Hayes, 80, of Etowah, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Woods Memorial Hospital. A native of Etowah, he retired as a supervisor from Bechtel Construction, where he assisted in the construction of nuclear plants. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army.He was a son of the late Harold Lee and Helen Augusta King Hayes. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Hayes of Etowah; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Gene and Marie Thompson of Anneville, Pa.; grandchildren, Bryan Thompson, Jeremy Thompson and Sarah and Scott Sellers, all of Anneville, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Diane Hayes of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Eldie Dickey of Etowah; one niece, Pam Cook; and other nieces and nephews.Family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday and will proceed to Green Hill Cemetery for the 3 p.m. graveside service with Lay Speaker Nathan Trentham officiating and with military honors.Pallbearers will be Johnny Hawn, Seth Hawn, Jim Robinson, Brian Solsbee, Bobby Adams and Ivan Snyder.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home.
