James "Jimmy" Bates, 64, of Benton passed away Tuesday September 11, 2018. He was retired from The Tennessee Highway Patrol. He was preceded in death by his parents Luke and Carrie Bates; sister's Billie Carroll, Annette Hooper, Brother's Wilford Bates, and Ray Bates. Survivors include Doreen Bates, Apex, NC, Kay Woodruff, Sweetwater, TN, and Nina Rowland of Athens, TN. Brothers Mickey Bates, Reliance, TN, Jerold Bates, Benton, TN, Danny Bates, Delano, TN, and Ross Bates, Durham, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday September 15, 2018 at Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Rowland officiating.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow to Delano Cemetery.
