Obituary

James Stanley Moses, 64, of Athens passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens.

A native of Etowah he was the son of the late James and Katherine Moses, He attended Etowah High School and graduated from Central High School before studying civil engineering at the University of Tennessee at Martin, He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War. Early in his career, he was affiliated with the Athens Police Department and later in the private construction business before his more than 30 year tenure with McMinn County, serving as the director of Solid Waste and supervisor of the McMinn county Landfill. He was a member of Dixon Avenue Baptist Church in Englewood and Etowah Masonic Lodge 653.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Charles Coleman; and his brother-in-law, Ronnie Coleman.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Moses; three daughters and son-in-law, Candice and Robert Burk, Shaye Rogers and her fiancé Eddie Coulter, and Lacie Moses; 1 son, Greg Moses; 7 grandchildren, Cole, Emma and Jacob Rogers, Morgane and Michael Lowe, Kai Burk and Isabella Haren; mother-in-law, Sue Coleman; sons-in-law, Jay Rogers, Jason Lowe and John Haren; special friend who was like a brother, Roger Farley and his wife, Joyce; and his loving employees who were like family at the McMinn County Landfill.

Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow. Rev. Allen Watson and McMinn County Mayor John Gentry officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, December 28, 2014 and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 12:00 noon committal service with Military Honors.

John Gentry, Marvin Hall, Charles Donaldson, Chris Richesin, Brandon Masengil and Joe Guy will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers will Roger Farley and the employees of the McMinn County Landfill.
