A native of Servilla, currently Springtown, Tenn., he was a son of the late James Auther and Nora Rose. He was retired from Harry Miller Excavating Company in Akron, Ohio. After retirement, he moved to Tennessee with his wife and children, where he opened Roses Restaurant in Reliance in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War; and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Etowah.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martina Rose; and a grandson, Ricky Gardner.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Barrs Rose; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cleda Rose, and Terry and Marcia Rose; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Frankie Baker; 10 grandchildren, Jason Rose, Jeremy Rose and spouse Sabrina, Robert Rose, Brittany Rose Palmer and spouse Mac, Terry Rose and spouse Amanda, James Rose and spouse Audra, Tonya Locke and spouse Calvin, Denny Gardner, Eddie Gardner and Mandy Baker; and 29 great-grandchildren, Shadow, Santana, Nathan, Noah, Jayln, Christian, Zachary, Madison, Brent, Dison, Ava, Daemon, Gracy, Samantha, Isaac, Kriss, Caleb, Catie, Madison, Macy, Jamie, Gage, Dakota, Cheyenne, Nate, Kelsey, Tristan, Rick, and Jane.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Paul Gregg and the Rev. Homer Belcher officiating. Interment will follow the service at Campground Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Terry Rose, James Rose, Jeremy Rose, Robert Rose, Jason Rose and Calvin Locke. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Allman, Mac McClain and Eddie Gardner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27th, and will conclude with a Masonic service.
