James Thomas "Tommy" Jenkins, 67, of Englewood, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, with his family by his side. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late James A. and Allie Bess Daugherty Jenkins. He was a member of Liberty Hill Church of Christ, where he taught the Adult Sunday School class. He was an alumnus of Englewood High School, East Tennessee State University, and currently a seminary student working toward a degree as a Church of Christ minister. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. Tommy was so loved by the family he leaves behind including two daughters and one son-in-law, MaryTom Jenkins-Cocks and spouse Jeff, and Georganna Jenkins; his children's mother and his wife of 27 years, the former Mary Tyler; two beloved grandsons and his namesakes, Thomas and James Cocks; his most beloved granddaughter, Caroline; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn McMillan and spouse Frank; one brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Jenkins and spouse Judy; nieces, nephew, and special friends, Carson and David Daugherty. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 in the South Chapel with Minister Mike Williams, pastor of Liberty Hill Church of Christ, and Minister Pat Wilson, pastor of Starr Mountain Church of Christ and Tommy's former college roommate officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23rd and proceed to Liberty Hill Cemetery for the 11 a.m. committal service.
