Jeffery L. Matthews, 51, of Niota, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013, at his residence.A son of the late Harvey and Heddie Long Matthews, he was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and attended Old Pond Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above.Survivors include Lolita Matthews of Niota; son, James Evans, of Benton; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Tim Davis of Athens; and brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Lavan Matthews of Niota.Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at New Bethel Cemetery. Pastor Myrl Vaughn will officiate. No formal visitation will be held. James Evans, Glen Matthews, Robert Torbett, Shaun Daniel, Patrick Burnette, and Luther Moore will serve as pallbearers.
