Joan Barnett Trew, a life-long resident of Etowah, TN passed away December 26, 2014 surrounded by her family. She will be missed by many as she was the heart and soul of her large family and touched many lives. She was 76 years old.

Her passion was taking care of others. Her laughter will be fondly remembered by all those who occupied a room with her. She raised her own children, her grandchildren, the neighborhood boys and countless children as a grade school teacher at Mountain View Elementary for greater than 30 years.

Joan was married to Roy Howard Trew for 57 years. They have three children, Michael Todd Trew, Sheree Denise Trew and H Chris Trew.

Michael is married to Kimberly Trew and they have two children, Wells and Brittany Trew. Sheree is married to Jerry Hook and they have one child, Zachary Hook. Chris is married to Renee Grayson Trew and they have five children, Sydney, Caitlin and Cullen Trew and Hannah and Brent Grayson.

Joan is also survived by her sister, Brenda Gaston, her husband Charles and their children, as well as the large Trew and Barnett extended families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard and Grace Barnett and her daughter-in-law Marian Biddle Trew.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 28, 2014 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Humberd officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m., to 3:00 p.m., prior to the service. Committal service will follow the funeral service at Green Hill Cemetery. Cullen Trew, Wells Trew, Steve Trew, Terry Trew, Tony Gaston, Craig Gaston, Cliff Jordan, Norman Jordan and Dwight Jordan will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to any organization of choice which seeks a cure for Alzheimer's Disease.
