Obituary

Joe E. Davis 76, of Etowah, TN, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Etowah Health Care Center.He was the son of the late Poley Oscar and Sadie Ann Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jerry Davis. He was a retired vocational teacherwiththe McMinn County Board of Education. After serving as a missionary for many years in Chile, Bimini, Costa Rica and many places across the U.S., he retired a Methodist minister after serving as Pastor at Oakdale United Methodist Church and Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Roane Co., TN. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed fish fry's, but more importantly, giving his catches away to his friends and family. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Etowah and he served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.Survivors include his wife, Betty Borden Davis of Etowah; 3 daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Davis of Knoxville, Denise Davis Farner of Knoxville and Sandy and Gary Cline of Etowah; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Poley and Wanda Davis of Etowah and Paul and Janice Davis of CA; Sister-in-law, Pearl Davis of FL; 15 grandchildren, Morgan, Will, Christopher and Joshua Farner, Shae and David Tuggle, Paige Isbill, Jade and Kevin Michael, Hailee and Alan Stuckey, Jodi and Mike Cheek, and Brandi and Jimmy Miller; 6 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brandt Sutherland, Braxton and Hudson Michael, Andrew Stuckey and Cayla Miller.Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Baker and Rev. Jason Crandall officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 19th in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home. Interment to follow the service Tuesday, at McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Mission Fund, P.O. Box 581, Etowah, TN 37331.
