Joe Dane Gaston, 77, of Etowah, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his home. A son of Robert "Bobeye" Abraham Gaston and Martha Elizabeth Forester Gaston, he was born in the Coghill community on January 19, 1935. He graduated from Etowah High School, 1953, was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and worked as a self employed home painter.A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was kindhearted, fun loving and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports and taking them to the mountains. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Joyce Clendenen Gaston; one son, Philip Ritchie Gaston, of Asheville, NC and one daughter and son-in-law Dana Jo and Ted Watson, of Etowah; six grandchildren, Elisabeth Anne Gaston, of Pasadena, CA, Philip Daniel Gaston and his wife Danielle Cegelski Gaston, of Paso Robles, CA, Matthew Ian Gaston, of Zambia (serving in the U.S. Peace Corp), Taylor Jordan Watson, of Etowah, Elianna Velvet Brianna Gaston, of Raleigh, NC and Ryley Kathryn Watson, of Etowah. Pallbearers will be Taylor Watson, Philip Gaston, Daniel Tallent, Harry Clendenen, Greg Rayburn and Clayton Clendenen. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah. Layspeaker Dr. Robert Shearer will preside over the service and eulogy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Bordwine Funeral Home in Etowah.
