Joe Leonard Mills, Jr., 43, a wonderful young man, was called home to his Creator on the morning of June 2, 2010. Leonard Mills was a member of the Native American Church Kituwah and affectionately called Shooting Star. Like his Kituwah name, he blazed into the lives of many people for 43 years, leaving a little piece of himself in their hearts. He was born Joe Leonard Mills, Jr. on the 12th day of August in 1966, in El Paso, Texas, but lived most of his life in Tennessee. He will be missed by all who knew him and especially his mother, Bobbie "Nana Wahuhi" Mills whom he loved dearly; his sister, Terri Witt and her husband; his brother, Steven Mills and his wife; his uncle Darrell; and his beloved dog, Scrappy. Several other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.
There will be an authentic Kituwah Memorial Service for him by the Hiwassee River to be announced at a later date.
