John B. Scroggins, 94, of Etowah, TN passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Etowah.
He was a son of the late W.M. and Myrtle Scroggins of Wetmore.
John was an avid golfer and was still playing when he could. He served in the Army during WWII, Andennes, Rhineland, Central Europe; he was at the Battle of the Bulge where he received 3 bronze stars, Combat Infantry, Army Good Conduct Medal, European Theatre Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, discharge pin in 1946; (Tech 4-F CO. 393 rd INF Regt 98 th INF DN).
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Chris James, Jane and Mike Whitson; grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Walter Hershey, John and Laura James, Will and Jessica Whitson, Andy Whitson, and Matt Whitson; great-grandchildren, Addison and Kate Hershey, Evan James, Eli Whitson, Judah Whitson; several nieces, nephews and some very special people in his life.
Preceded in death by his wife, Jean Postelle Scroggins; sister, Mary Glynn Arnwine; brothers, Audrey and Oliver Scroggins.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Green Hill Cemetery. At his request there will be no formal visitation or service.
