Dr. John H. Tullock
Dr. John H. Tullock, of Delano, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2011. He was the son of Roy and Ollie Tullock. Dr. Tullock was a graduate of Carson Newman College, Southeastern Seminary and Vanderbilt University. He pastored churches in Delano, Tennessee; Everetts, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee. He taught at Belmont University for 34 years where he was the Chairman of the Department of Religion. He was the author of a college textbook, The Old Testament Story, which has just been released in its Ninth Edition. While at Belmont, he and his wife, Helen, took two, one year sabbaticals where they served in Ogbomosho, Nigeria. During their 64 years of marriage, they opened their hearts to include so many, and are cherished by those who call them Mom and Dad. Those include: Frani McLean, Texas; Jesse Cerqueira, Brazil; Pat Fife, Alaska; Sture Anhland, Sweden; Ibiba Okpara, Nigeria and Dr. Tullock's caregiver, Debra Meyer.
Dr. Tullock is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter and son-in-law; Beth and Gene Sizemore; his son and daughter-in-law, Laurens and Polly Tullock; his daughters, Thelma Mankin and Sandra Taylor; grandchildren, Donald Martin, Chyna Brackeen, Jodi Martin, Jennifer Meadows and Will Tullock and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Delano Cemetery, Delano, TN. A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Wetmore Baptist Church in Delano, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Tullock, Curtis, Lee Scholarship Fund, Belmont University, 1900 Belmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37212-3757.
