Obituary

Jonathan Arbin Watson, 81, of Athens, died February 1, 2012. A resident of Athens, he was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Arbin and Maudie Watson. A beloved and lifelong member of New Zion Baptist Church, he served in various ministries throughout his life. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and National Guard and retired from Athens Stove Works (WCI) after 36 years of service in management. He was known for his glowing smile, quick wit, friendly disposition and amazing strength. His charismatic personality was a joy to all who knew him, and he never met a stranger.He enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes that included gospel music, farming, camping, motorcycles, clock collections and spending time with his family. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, and the rock of his family who loved him dearly.Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Louise Watson, one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Daisy Watson ofFredericks, VA, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Jarrell Disspain of Etowah and April and Randall Timko of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren, Philip Watson of Athens, Justin Allen and wife Kristen of Nashville, Fawna Willis and husband Nick of Cleveland, Kortney Allen and husband Matthew Saunders of Cleveland, Hillary Burnette and husband Jake of Athens, Austin and Kendall Timko of Knoxville and Kaela Watson of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister and brother-in-law, Angelee and Ralph Blankenship of Englewood; one brother and sister-in-law, Denzil and Linda Watson of Athens; special in-laws, Joey and Becky Kincaid of Etowah, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who fondly referred to him as "Uncle Bud".Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., in the South Chapel, of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Coleman and Rev. Tom Triplett officiating, interment to follow at New Zion Cemetery with Military Honors.
