Obituary

Joseph Settle Peck, 76, of Delano, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on June 9, 2025.

Born in Middletown, Ohio, Joe led a life rooted in service, love, and deep devotion to family. He served 30 years in the United States Navy, enlisting as an E1 and retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. His military career exemplified commitment, discipline, and leadership. Joe was the go-to guy to write and deliver farewell speeches for his fellow officers. However, more times than not, they turned out to be more of a humorous and satirical roast, resulting in tears of laughter from the enlisted community.

In September of 1997, Joe and Deanna were married in Quakertown, PA. They moved to Port Orchard, WA where Joe would serve his last command and finally retired… from the Navy. Joe continued to support the FBM (Fleet Ballistic Missile) program for another 10 years as a senior manager with Lockheed Martin in Silverdale, Washington.

In 2012, Joe and his wife Deanna retired to Delano, where he found joy in the simple pleasures of life: playing his trumpet, golfing, writing poetry, and pool time. Joe and Deanna now lived closer to family, and they looked forward to making up for lost time with them. One of Joe's most meaningful traditions for many years was visiting local cemeteries on Memorial Day to play Taps in honor of those who served to keep us safe and our country free.

Known for his warmth, generosity, and sharp wit, Joe was the master at giving names to his most cherished possessions. The places he called home were known as Frog Holler out west and Peck's Peek in Delano. His car was known as "Steel', his zero-turn mower 'Zeek", and his yard taxi… aka golf cart was Bogey. Joe had a kind of humor that would make you laugh or make you scratch your head (what?). He cherished his children, his grandchildren, and was looking forward to "rubbing off" on his great grandchildren. His time spent with his children and grandchildren gave him immeasurable joy.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Deanna; daughters Wendy (Jay) George and Amy Peck-Niedfeldt; stepchildren Ben Johnson and Jessica (Simon) Webster. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Blaine (Allie) Peck, Harley (Ryan) Cribb, Holden George, Isabella Peck, Brennan Niedfeldt, Finley Niedfeldt, Brett Burgess, Bryce Burgess, Brock Johnson, Kyliegh DuHamel, and Alice Coleman. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Malakai Peck and Easton Cribb.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Peck and Eleanor Barrett-Peck; his brother, Andrew Barrett Peck; and his son, Benjamin Sean Peck.

Joe's life was defined by loyalty, laughter, and love, a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
