Judy Marian Pickett Cook, 71, of Etowah, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Erlanger Medical Center after a lingering illness.
She was a wonderful mother who always put the needs of her children before her own, a loving wife, a cherished grandmother and a highly respected nurse.
Judy attended East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C. She received her LPN certification through the Tennessee Vocational Center and her Registered Nursing degree from the University of the State of New York-Regents College. She was a caring professional who loved her patients and took great pride in her profession. She was the first nursing student in the state of Tennessee to receive a perfect score on her LPN exam.
She is the daughter of the late John M. and Eva A. Burdette and was also preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Ronnie Cook.
She is survived by her children; daughter, Rhonda Whaley, and son-in-law, James, of Athens, sons, Johnny Pickett, and daughter-in-law, Nova Cunningham, of Las Vegas, NV, and Sean Pickett and daughter -in-law, Mandy, of Flintstone, GA. She is also survived by three adopted sons, Cameron Cook of Stanfield, NC, Isaac Cook and Caleb Cook of Englewood, stepsons, Scott Cook of Kyle, TX, and Dustin Cook of Athens, grandchildren, Lindsey Pickett Reed of Hixson, TN, Benton Pickett and Jessica Pickett of Flintstone, GA, step-grandson Austin Lankford of Athens, great-grandchildren Fletcher and Owen Stephenson of Hixson, TN, sister, Audrey Greene, and brother-in law, Harold, of Ridgecrest, NC, and brother, John Burdette, and sister-in-law, Mary Jane, of Stanfield, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews
A funeral service will be conducted at 4pm Sunday in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sneed officiating. Music will be provided by Renee Bunch and Delinda King. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 10AM Monday for the funeral procession. Interment will be at McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Pickett, Sean Pickett, James Whaley, Cameron Cook, Bill Russell, and Bill Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Brandon Watters, Bob Ketchersid, Richard Johns, and Rev. Kevin Cheatum.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
