Obituary

Dr. Julie Goodin, 43, of Englewood, TN passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 23, 2025.

A beloved wife, mother, daughter and community leader, Dr. Goodin's life was a shining example to all who had the honor of knowing her. Her loss has left a void in the hearts of many, but her legacy will endure. Dr. Goodin served as Director of McMinn County Schools.

Julie is survived and missed by her husband, Josh Goodin; sons, Jeb and Gunner Goodin; parents, Roy and Pam Aderhold; Father and mother-in-law, Tony and Carolyn Goodin; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chad and Amy Goodin, sister-in-law and brother-law, Shannon and Mack Beaty; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Matt and Lacie Goodin, Cody and Jessica Goodin; uncle, James Walker; aunt, Barbara Aderhold; nieces, Katie Goodin, Carsi Beaty, Sadie Goodin, McCary Beaty, Kaydann Bennard and Ellie Goodin; nephews, Sam Goodin, Jack Goodin, Jake Goodin, Dax Goodin, and Dillard Goodin; cousins, Jordan and Piper Wylie, Mindy Ellis, and Mark Rayburn; several beloved friends and coworkers.

She is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Paul and Lorene Walker, and paternal grandparents Joe and Virginia Aderhold, all formerly of Etowah.

Julie was a native of Etowah, Tennessee and a lifelong resident of McMinn County. A gifted athlete, Julie attended school at Mountain View Elementary and Central High School, where she earned numerous accolades and set multiple records on the basketball court, including All-State, All-American, Tennessee Miss Basketball, and Miss Central High School to name only a few. After high school, Julie signed a scholarship with Clemson University to continue her basketball calling, where she led an illustrious career and even furthered her athletic accomplishments. While regarded among the area's greatest basketball talents, Julie was an even greater leader and teammate and her reputation as such would continue to serve her well throughout her life and career.

Dr. Goodin earned her B.A. in Secondary Education at Clemson University (2004), M.A. in Instructional Leadership (2007) and Ed.S. in Educational Leadership (2008) from Tennessee Technological University and her Doctorate of Educational Leadership (2024) from Arkansas State University. Julie's love of her community and kids led her calling to be an educator. Her love for her hometown inspired her mission to do her best to promote and grow the educational system of McMinn County. She earned multiple awards and served in many capacities throughout her career including teacher, coach, mentor teacher, club sponsor, bus driver, assistant principal, Pre K-2nd Curriculum Supervisor and Secondary Supervisor. Her versatility and willingness to wear any hat helped develop her position in leadership from early on in her career. Julie was selected to be the first female Director of Schools in McMinn County in June of 2025 and continued to realize her vision of making the students and teachers of McMinn County her priority.

A true giant in the McMinn County community, Julie's greatest personal pride and joy was her family. She married Josh Goodin in 2005 and was the mother to two sons, Jeb and Gunner. Julie was a remarkable human who loved her boys big and was the center of Josh's world. As the only child of Roy and Pam Aderhold, she was the light of their life. She was a friend to whomever she encountered and never met a stranger that she did not share stories of her family with. She was endlessly proud of her boys.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in the gymnasium of McMinn Central High School with Dr. Shaun King and Rev. Kyle Hinch officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the gymnasium.
