Kenneth Andrew Newman, 88, of Delano, died Friday morning, January 22, 2010 at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home in Etowah. A native of McMinn County and resident of Polk County for most of his life, he was a son of the late Horace and Lula Kelley Newman. He was of the Baptist faith, and was an avid gardener and college football fan. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Herbert Franks; a sister, Patsy Manning; five brothers, Jack, H.R., Reathel, Alfred and J.L. Newman; and one nephew, Rick Newman. Survivors include his wife, Inez Williams Newman of Delano; one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Cindy Newman of Cleveland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Murl Hampton of Athens, Elaine and Harold Landers of Delano, and Rhonda Chancey of Athens; seven grandchildren and spouses, Matthew and Stacy Hampton, Joshua and Shannon Landers, Luke and Dorothy Landers, Shannon and Larry Hicks, Holly and Chip Chandler, Laurel and Jonathan Hooper and Benjamin and Christina Newman; seven great-grandchildren, Madison, Mallory and Sydney Hampton, Jack Chandler, Emily and Andrew Newman and Jenna Landers; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Bobbie Newman, and Wendell and Margaret Newman, all of Delano; one brother-in-law, Emmett Manning of Henegar, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Janie Newman and Bernice Newman, both of Delano; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 7 pm. Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the South Chapel with Dr. Harold Curtis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24th and proceed to Delano Cemetery for the 10 a.m. committal service, which will conclude with the White Dove Liberation Ceremony.
