Kevin Dale Daugherty, 41, of Garner, N. Carolina, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at his residence in Garner. A native of Burlington, N. Carolina, he was a son of Baxter Daugherty and the late Johnnie Nipper Daugherty. He was self employed, and his hobbies included music and canoeing. Kevin was born in Burlington, NC and grew up in Elon, NC. He graduated from Alamance County High School in Burlington, NC in 1987 and then attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. His love of art and music found expression in his guitar. He developed a particular interest in and love for folk and blue grass music and developed his own unique style of playing the guitar. He enjoyed sharing his musical talents with his family and friends. His gift of humor and his unique turns of phrase brought smiles and laughter to friends and family alike. Kevin was an accomplished outdoorsman and enjoyed numerous camping and canoeing trips in the mountains and rivers of Tennessee and N. Carolina, often serving as a guide, with his friends and family.

Survivors include his father, Baxter Daugherty; two brothers, Gregory Keith Daugherty and Douglas Brian Daugherty; one sister-in-law, Deanna J. Daugherty; one nephew, Douglas Craig Daugherty; and one niece, Hadyn Marie Daugherty.

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010 in the South Chapel with Minister Travis Irwin, Dr. Bob Williams and Dr. Tim Gunnells officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at Liberty Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday, October 11th for the committal service. Warren Skelton, Danny Newman, Eric Brackner, Gary Jones, Craig Daugherty, and Lee Edward Nipper will serve as pallbearers.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Widow's and Widower's Fund, Athens Church of Christ, PO Box 494, Athens, TN 37371.
