Larry Wayne Cole, 61, of Etowah, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 3, 2010 at Woods Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born in Etowah on April 8, 1949 to the late Amos and Essie Cole of Etowah. He was a graduate of McMinn Central High School and attended Cleveland State Community College. He was retired from the TVA after 27 years of service. If Wayne was not gardening or working on his home in East Etowah, which had a beautiful view of Starr Mountain, you would find him fishing on the Tellico River or Watts Bar Lake with his best buddies, Clay Swartout, Tommy Ivans and Jerry Cox. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie "Bill" Cole, and a sister, Cynthia Skipper, both of Etowah; and a nephew, Roy Anderson, of Tucson, Arizona. Survivors include his beloved family, one son, Josy Cole of Maryville; one stepson, Gary Mike McGhee of Raleigh, N. Carolina; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leslie and Norine Cole of Etowah and Steve and Lucinda Cole of Knoxville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Pauline Anderson Barncard, Imogene and Kenneth Brown and Joann Johnson, all of Etowah; and his special friend and companion, Sandy Mazanek of Etowah. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Jack Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Wayne will be laid to rest beside his parents in the green gardens of Shady Grove Cemetery in Tellico Plains at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010. His passing will leave a large void in many lives, but his memory will bring joy to all who knew and loved him.
