Larry Hampton, 53, of Riceville, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at his residence. Born Aug. 3, 1958, he was a son of Gertrude and the late James Harvey "Jay" Hampton. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County. He was employed at Dynasty Spas in Athens. Larry has fought a good fight, not only against cancer, but also for his Lord and Savior. Larry's motto was, "I'm a winner either way." He was preceded in death by one brother, David Hampton. Survivors include his wife, Dorinda Hampton of Riceville; his mother, Gertrude Hampton of Etowah; three children and one spouse, Racheal Hampton of Riceville, Amanda and Quintin Murphy of Etowah, and Jamie Hampton of Riceville; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jimmy Gaddis of Cleveland; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and April Roberts of Mariana, Fla.; his in-laws, Bill and Maxine Roberts and Jerry and Ann Manders, all of Riceville; two grandsons, Eli Hampton and Holden Green; three nephews, Tim Gaddis and Allen Gaddis, both of Cleveland, and Brad Hampton of Etowah; and many precious friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Youth Pastor Mark Roberts officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, and will proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the noon burial. Pallbearers will be John Sullivan, Donnie Smith, Robert Norman, Hunter Sullivan, Mike Shannon and Junior Hicks.The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
