Laverne "Bun" Payne Lockhart, 98, of Etowah, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens. A native of the Copper Basin area in Polk County and resided in Etowah for the past 80 years. The daughter of the late Wallace and Mable Payne she is preceded in death by her husband A.B. Lockhart; son, Wallace Edgar "Eddie" Lockhart; 3 sisters, Ruth "Toots" Nichols, Barbara Dale and Shirley Patterson; 3 brothers, Olin "Bud" Payne, Austin "Tince" Payne and Max R. Payne. Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Anthony "Tony" Lockhart of the Goodsprings community, Dennis Ricky and Karen Lockhart of Decatur Alabama; 4 granddaughters and spouses, Lisa Lockhart of Goodsprings community, Shannon and David Duggan of Englewood, Melanie and Jeff Walker of Etowah, Kari and Chris Knighten of Aardmore Alabama; several precious great-grandchildren; siblings, Edris Deal of Kingston, TN, Jeanne Fowler of Postelle, TN, Zane Payne of Atlanta, GA.Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 and proceed to Coghill Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m., graveside service. Pastor Joe Crockett will officiate. No formal visitation will be held. Tommy Nichols, Billy Nichols, Ron Fowler, Roger Deal, Jim Patterson, Kelly Dale, Doug Dale, and Scott Payne will serve as pallbearers.
