Lillian Rosealee Miller, 96 was born in Etowah on June 25, 1920 and a lifelong resident passed away peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Etowah Health Care Center where she has been a resident for two and one half years. Before that she was a resident at Wellington Place in Athens for two years. She was a daughter of the late Hiliary H. and Martha Moates and a member of First Baptist Church of Etowah.
Preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Miller; parents, listed above; son, David Miller; 4 brothers, Herbert, Frank, Donald and Billy Moates
During World War II she spent a short time with her husband Hubert Miller at Camp Buckner in Durham, NC.
Lillian graduated from Etowah High School in 1941. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church in Etowah where she was a very active member, holding various offices in the church. She also held many jobs during her life-the first one being with Dick Ownbey's Grocery Store where she became known as "The Donut Lady". She made donuts in the front window and many stopped on the sidewalk to watch or come in to buy donuts. She also worked for the grocery stores in Etowah, McConkey's, KC's and Galloway's. Later she worked in the admitting office of Woods Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, working there until her retirement. She also was a precinct worker during elections and helped her husband, Hubert when he was the manager of the Martin Movie Theater.
She enjoyed crafts and sewing and made many beautiful quilts which she shared with family and friends.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Lisa Miller; grandchildren, Rebecca Miller, Scott Miller, Jeremiah Miller and Jacob Miller; sisters and brother-in-law, Edna and Charles Ross of Etowah, Dorothy Chastain of Delano; sister-in-law, Marie Moates of Knoxville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Marlene Miller; special niece and husband, JoAnn and Carl Garner of Athens; several other nieces and nephews.
Lillian's family, want to express our deepest appreciation to both Etowah Health Care and Wellington Place for their kind and loving care for her during her stay in each place. She was treated as family and loved those who cared for her in both places.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Earl and Lay speaker Dennis Bordwine officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday prior to the service. Interment will follow service to McMinn Memory Gardens.
Rick Chastain, Carl Garner, Josh Rule, Dennis Chastain, Jeffrey Chastain and Steve Moates will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Walker, Don Moates, Jerry Moates and Pat Moates.
