Luther Carroll, 92, of Etowah, peacefully passed away on January 12, 2016. He is survived by his two sisters, Bettie Elwood of Etowah and Peggy Houk of Barnesville, Georgia; three nephews, Brian Elwood, Philip Elwood and Chris Elwood; and five nieces, Colleen Elwood, Glenna Waller, Crystal Hedspeth, Trina Houk, and Deanna Lovelady.

He played football for Etowah High School and graduated in 1943. He was accepted at the Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Long Island, New York; He worked as a Merchant Marine Engineer for approximately 28 years. He also served in the Naval Reserve from 1949-1966. He retired in Etowah, Tennessee. He was a member of The American Legion, Post 11, Etowah, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends at Bordwine Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 prior to the memorial service at l:00 p.m. Committal is to follow at McMinn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be given to his favorite charity, Little Children of the World, 351 County Road 475, Etowah, Tennessee.
