Luther Jerome Fain, age 80 of Athens, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at his residence. He was a son of the late Elbert and Mary Belle Gay Fain; a member and deacon of East Athens Baptist Church; and Sergeant 1st Class army veteran of 278thCompany A 1st Battalion RCT, a Master Mason; member ofAmerican Legion Chapter 68,and was retired from Bowater.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Agnes Fain Miller and Ruby Fain Wilson; and brother, J.B. Fain.

Survivors include, wife, Betty Haney Fain of Athens, TN; children, Larry and Kathy Fain of Niota, TN, Vickie and Ricky Peeler of Ringgold, GA, Steve and Dianne Fain of Etowah, TN, and Connie and Tim Woodcock of Athens, TN; grandchildren, Matt and Lisa Peeler, Angie Wilson, Chelsea and Brandon Glover, Hunter Woodcock; great-grandchildren, Logan Peeler, Elizabeth Peeler, Chloe Wilson, Abby Peeler, Sidney Peeler; sister, Nila Martin of Athens, TN; sister-in-law, Nina Fain of Englewood, TN

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2016 at East Athens Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Hathcock and Dr. Jason Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, prior to the service at East Athens Baptist Church. Family and friends will assemble at McMinn Memory Gardens, Saturday, March 5, 2016 for the 11:00 a.m. Committal Service with military honors.

Pallbearerswill be grandsons, Matt Peeler, Hunter Woodcock, Logan Peeler, Brandon Glover; friend, Corbin Young; and nephew, Ray Teague.
