IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Luther
Starkey
January 18, 1951 – February 2, 2026
Luther Starkey, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on January 18, 1951, Luther lived a life filled with purpose, dedication, and love, particularly for his family, who were his greatest joy.
Luther dedicated 40 years of his professional life to the J.M. Huber Corporation, where he was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for the camaraderie he fostered among his colleagues. His commitment to his career was rivaled only by his devotion to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Starkey, and his son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Lacey Starkey. Luther's granddaughters—Savannah-Claire, Scarlett, Sailor, and Branna Starkey—brought immense happiness to his life, shining as the light of his heart. Luther also leaves behind his sisters Marie and Bob Crumley, as well as sister-in-law Barbara Wood. He was a cherished uncle to his niece Vanessa Wood, and nephews Chris Williams and Josh Crumley. Survivors also include Chelsie and James Ledford, the parents of Branna Starkey.
Luther's life was enriched by memories of his late son, Brandon Heath Starkey, and by the love of his parents, Luther and Elisa Starkey. He also carries within him the memories of his deceased family members, including his father and mother-in-law, Steve and Jean Wood, his sister Betty Wright, brother-in-law Barry Wood, and his niece and nephew, Rhonda Elkins and Michael Williams. Also, he lost his beloved companion, Bandit.
Throughout his life, Luther nurtured his passions and interests, particularly his love for his granddaughters, who remained a central focus and joy in his world. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and family love will forever be remembered by those he leaves behind.
As we honor and celebrate Luther's remarkable life, we invite all who knew him to cherish their memories of him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Athens Animal Shelter in memory of Luther, 320 S. Jackson St., Athens, TN 37303.
