Marcella M. Coker, 89, passed away February 10, 2018 in Etowah, TN. She was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Muskegon, MI to Irving and Irene (Pierce) Hyrns. Mrs. Coker grew up in Muskegon but later moved to Bear Lake, MI. She met her first husband, Roland Matthews, in Bear Lake where they married after his return from WWII. For many years she lived in Muskegon, MI where most of her children grew up. While in the Muskegon area she worked at Misco Corp. in Whitehall, MI. She married Robert Arthur Coker on April 3, 1975 and moved to Etowah with him shortly after their marriage. Robert and Marcella owned an auto-body repair business on County Road 475 for many years. For many years they also managed a residential home for the aged. Mrs. Coker always provided shelter for many friends and relatives over the years. Robert died in 1982. Mrs. Coker devoted her life to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her goals in life were simple. She always wanted to be a good wife and mother. She was both. Mrs. Coker outlived her three husbands: Roland Matthews, Charles Morris and Robert Coker.
She is survived by her brothers, Donald Hyrns of Bear Lake, MI and Monte Hyrns of Muskegon, MI; sister, Linda and Jim Smith of Hendersonville, TN; sons and daughters-in-laws, Patrick and Hai Matthews of Fruitport, MI, Michael and Susie Matthews of Hixson, TN, and Tim Matthews of Etowah, TN; daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathy and Stu Morin of Athens, TN and Colleen and Gene Eaton of Athens, TN; stepchildren, Catherine and Tom Worth of Mears, MI and Robert Coker of Branch, MI; step daughter-in-law, Belinda Coker of Branch, MI; grandchildren, Jennifer Peatross, Amber Lockhart, Talisha Wilson, Tanner Matthews, April Eaton, James Hutchison, Eric Matthews, Johnathon Matthews, Katie Eaton and Amanda Winberry; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Irene Hyrns; sister, Doris Lillian Hyrns; brother, Patrick Delbert Hyrns; and step-son, Marvin Coker.
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Conasauga Cemetery with Bob Cantley officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, family would like the donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mid South Chapter 7625 Hamilton Park Dr. Suite 22 Chattanooga, TN 37421 or Conasauga Cemetery, Dale Key 230 County Road 475 Etowah, TN 37331.
