Margaret "Nanaw" Sims Carroll, 95, passed from this life the morning of July 8 at her home in Englewood. The daughter of William (Bill) and Lora Jeralds Sims, Margaret was born May 11, 1919, in Englewood. She attended Englewood School, and throughout her life remained a resident of the town of Englewood. She was a loving and respected mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She was, at the time of her passing, one of the eldest citizens of Englewood and McMinn County. She was for her entire life a faithful member of the Englewood Church of God where she cherished her church family, and a member of Englewood Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Her bright personality, kindness, smile, compassion, grace, and wit to which her family and friends were accustomed remained with her until the end, and she was known as "Nanaw" to everyone. She was the wife of the late George I. Carroll Jr., and the mother of Barbara, Frances, and George Lynn. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and sister Dorotha Sims Atkins, and one child, Lanita Jayne.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara and husband Cecil Reed, Frances and husband Jack Powers, and son George Lynn Carroll, all of Englewood; along with grandchildren Larry and Rhonda Reed, Sherri and Mike Brock, Jackie Powers and Joni Pettit, Stephanie and Joe Guy, Nikki and Matt Blair, Jason and Kim Powers, Candyce and Brad Casteel, Brittney and Jeff Zwierzynski, and Brandon Carroll. Great grandchildren include Nick and Nathan Reed; Megan and Brandon Dingess; Brady Jackson, and Will Guy; Haden and Landen Blair; Hunter, Memphis, and Mazie Powers; Kelby Casteel; Brianna and Brent Carroll; Ethan and Cayden Zwierzynski; and great-great grandson Winston Guy; and loving pet, until the end "Molly".
Funeral Service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Englewood First Church of God with Pastor Kevin Cummins, Joe Guy and Richard Patterson officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home Thursday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. and proceed to Sunrise Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Larry Reed, Jackie Powers, Jason Powers, Matt Blair, Brandon Carroll, Brandon Dingess, Nicholas Reed, Nathan Reed and Mike Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Guy, Will Guy, Brady Guy, Haden Blair, Hunter Powers, Landen Blair and Brent Carroll.
