Marie Oleitta "Lete" Swartout, 98 of Etowah, TN passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018. She was a daughter of the late Bunyon C. and Caroline Brown Brackett of the Coghill Community of McMinn County. She was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church since 1950.
Preceded in death by her husband, Laverne Albert Swartout; 3 brothers, Quade Keith, Carr Knox, Ford Edison Brackett all of Maryville, TN. Lete lived most of her life in Etowah and McMinn County and for a short time in Muleshoe, TX. She was a graduate of Muleshoe High School; she returned to Etowah and married her late husband and was a homemaker for many years; she retired from Redford's five and ten store in the late 1970's. She was known for her quick witt, kind heart and outgoing personality; she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading and gardening; she was a great seamstress and enjoyed quilting in her younger years; she was an avid Tennessee Vols football fan and looked forward to the season every year; she brought joy to her family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Swartout of Titusville, FL, Linda "Winkie" and Larry Bird of Cleveland, TN, Lavonda "Bonnie" and Barry Eanes of Martinsville, VA; 2 granddaughters, Tracy Gouge Young of Cape Canaveral, FL, Leslie Eanes Volk and husband, Daniel of Roswell, GA; 3 sisters-in-law, Bernice, Jo and Marie Brackett; cousin, Bobbie Mason of Benton; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Green Hill Cemetery with Lay Speaker Dennis Bordwine officiating.Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
