Obituary

Martha Ellen King "Boots" Collins, 77, of Etowah, went to heaven on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home.A native of McMinn County, she attended Eastview Baptist Church. A daughter of the late Luther "Bud" and Annie King, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell and Jack King; and one grandchild, Collin Stephens. She was a loving mother and grandmother as well as a dear friend to many. She also served as chaplain for 14 years with AmVets Post 100 in Etowah.Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Josa' Valadez of Riceville, Connie and Tony Stephens of Athens, and Barbara and Randy Preston of Englewood; one sister, Joyce King of Etowah; two brothers, Dale King of Etowah, and Paul King of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Cory Shugart of Chicago, Ill., Patrick Shugart of Washington, D.C., Fallon and Addison Stephens, both of Athens, Zeb Preston of Englewood, and Stephanie Valadez of Radcliff, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Witt and the Rev. Jeff Blanchette officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jose Valadez, Kenny Witt, Jeff Blanchette, Randy Preston, Cory Shugart and Patrick Shugart. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McMinn Area Cancer Relief Fund, P.O. Box 536, Athens, TN 37371-0536.
