Martha Evelyn McCurdy, 78 of Athens, died Tuesday morning, March 9, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lizzie Chester Cronan. She was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by a son, Joel D. McCurdy; and a brother, J.L. Cronan. Survivors include her husband, Raymond McCurdy of Athens; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Jerry Green of Athens, Brenda and Ken Mashburn of Erwin, and Sandy and Gary Young of Naples, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Karen McCurdy of Knoxville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Inez Rains, and Mary and Bob Dickey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William S. and Linda Cronan, and Max and Vickie Cronan; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Jenkins and the Rev. Michael Roach officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at New Bethel Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11th for the committal service. Willy Runion, Phil Harris, Jon Trout, Jeff Rains, Chris Cronan, Morris Cronan, and Sherman Cronan Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
