Marvin Eugene Kelley, "Pappy Gene", 83, of Englewood, TN passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Etowah Healthcare Center. He was a son of the late Henry and Onnie Kelley. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Army; he worked a number of years at Athens Stove Works; and was an avid farmer. Eugene was a devoted member of the Republican Party and recipient of the 1997 Lincoln Award for McMinn County; chairman of the cemetery committee and operator of the sound system for many years, he was an integral part of his church, Mars Hill UMC in Englewood.
Preceded in death by his parents, listed above; sister, Marcella Culberson; and mother-in-law, Lillian Fetzer Norris.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Imogene Kelley; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Cindy Kelley; niece and her husband, Judy and Freddie Breeden; brother-in-law and his wife, Curtis and Mildred Culberson; grandson and his wife, Grant and Amanda Kelley; great-granddaughters, Alice and Celia Kelley; special buddy, Peyton Dean.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Robert E. Hamilton officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Mars Hill Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service with Military Honors.
