Marvin S. Taylor, age 75 of Etowah, TN passed away at home on August 9, 2019 after his 5th year battle with cancer.
He served in the US Navy upon graduation from high school from Lanier Senior High School for Boys in Macon, GA. He began his career with southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph in Macon, GA in 1965 and retired from BellSouth Telephone Company in Atlanta, GA in 1994. After moving to Etowah he was an active volunteer in the Etowah Community. He and his wife Karen had two businesses in Etowah. He served as president of the Etowah Rotary Club, and President of the Etowah Area Chamber of Commerce, served on the Old Fashion Fourth of July Committee, Gem Players Board of Directors, and Etowah United Fund. He and wife Karen enjoyed their travels as Tour Directors of Knoxville Tours for eight years until his illness prevented further travel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherwin C. and Elma Braxton Taylor; his father and mother-in-law, Harley R. and Frances Green Wear.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Wear Taylor of 38 years; his son, James D. Taylor of Fort Myers, FL; daughters, Faye Strauss of Covington, GA, Shannon Taylor of Milton, GA, and Jennifer Taylor of Cumming, GA; one brother, Russell Taylor of Archie, MO; two sisters, Charlotte Taylor of Blackshear, GA, and Joyce Hicks of Watauga, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Wear Gaston; grandchildren, Suzanne Strauss, Noah Taylor, Jasmine Taylor, and Mollie Taylor; niece, Erica Taylor Ashby; nephews, Nolan Taylor, Geoffrey Balkcom and Mike Balkcom; several grand nephews and nieces.
A special thank you to the "Angels" at Caris Hospice who took such great care of him.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Hickman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Green Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jerry Liner, Phil Tuggle, Gus Jaibat, Don Stewart, Bill Robinson, and Charles Bivens. Honorary pallbearers are the Etowah Rotary Club.
