Mary Jane "Mammy" Newman passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on November 30, 1942, Mary Jane exemplified kindness and strength throughout her life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

She is remembered fondly for her good sense of humor and unwavering faith as a strong Christian. Mary Jane had a profound love for music; her talents presented themselves beautifully through her piano playing and singing. Her ability to uplift others with her voice and laughter was a true gift, and she was known to be a good soul whose warmth and compassion radiated beyond her family. Mary Jane's proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Dianna Newman, and Jerry and Debbie Newman; as well as her daughter and son-in-law, Odetta and Tony Cook. The legacy of her love continues through her grandchildren and their spouses: Mandy and Tyler Yother, Johnnie and Austin Howard, Greg Layne, Destiny and Dakota Burns, and Zach and Bethany Newman. Additionally, she delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to Colton and Callie Newman, who brought her immense joy. Also, one surviving brother who she shared fond memories with, Charles Curtis. 

Mary Jane was born to Bill and Odetta Curtis and was preceded in death by her husband, John Newman; brothers, Harold, Scott, Jerry, James, and Billy Curtis, and sisters Eva Blevins and Carrie Presley.

Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2026 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Erbin Baumgardner officiating 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday prior to the service.
