Obituary

Max Alton Trew, 87, of Riceville, Tennessee passed away, Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his home.

Max was born March 28, 1930 in Delano, TN to Fred and Louie (McMahan) Trew and was a lifelong resident of McMinn County. He graduated from McMinn County High School in 1948 and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College. Max was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. On September 11, 1956 he married the former Grace Martin in Englewood, TN. Max was employed at Bowater Southern Paper Corporation and helped run the family farm. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening and sharing his musical talent, playing guitar and singing with various groups and organizations and as a member of the bluegrass band the Loafers. He was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Southeastern Bluegrass Association (SEBA), and Chattanooga Area Friends of Folk Music. He was a loving husband, daddy and grandpa.

Max is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace, and two daughters Anita Pippin and her husband Jeff Pippin and Sara Mundy and her husband Steve Mundy, four grandchildren, Nate and Josh Pippin and Lizzy Mundy and Julie (Mundy) Sullivan, and sister Fern (Trew) Perry.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 31 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. John Crabtree officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 1st, 2017 and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.
