Melvin Young, 63, of Englewood, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at his residence. A native of Monroe County and resident of McMinn County most of his life, he was a son of the late John Brunner and Mary Nell Isbill Young. He was called Papaw by many people and children, and anyone who chose to call him papaw, which he loved. He worked for Tellico Telephone Company for 27 years, which is not TDS Telecom. He serviced Englewood, Riceville and Niota districts. He loved his job and his customers. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Brenda J. Torbett Young of Englewood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley O'Neil and Edith Young of Etowah; and Jeremy Lee and Carol Young of Athens; grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Garrison, Brittany Leeann Young, Logan Ryan O'Neil Young, Taylor Mishea Young and Bailee Mariah Young; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Eugene and Margaret Young, Bruce Allen and Sue Young, George Reece and Robin Young, Brunner Ray and Trish Young, Paul Reed and Rebecca Young, an Richard Glenn and Louise Young; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Rick Atkins, Chaplain Dewayne Renfroe and Ed Lemmond officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29th and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11 a.m. committal service. Chris Young, Scott Young, Leslie Givens, Terry Young, Doug Young, Jeff Young, Jason Young, Logan Young, and Terrence Underwood will serve as pallbearers.
