Murl Ray Hampton, 85 of the Goodsprings Community, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 6, 2019.

He was a son of the late Homer and Lula Hampton.

Preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Hampton.

He was a graduate of Etowah High School in 1951 and Tennessee Tech in 1955; he retired with 40 years at Hiwassee Land Co. and worked 15 years for Hiwassee Timber Inc. of Athens; he was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce Newman Hampton; children and their spouses, Matt and Stacy Hampton of Dayton, Shannon Hampton Hicks and Larry of Athens, Holly Hampton Chandler and Chip of Athens; grandchildren, Madison, Mallory, Sydney Hampton and Jack Chandler; sisters, Brenda Browning and Jim Ledford of Harrison, TN, Linda and Don Higdon; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and many faithful friends.

Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2019 at McMinn Memory Gardens with Gary Cooper officiating. Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
