Naomi Marie Shadden of Athens passed away at the age of 95 Sunday, January 23, 2011, at her home.

A Native of Murray County, Georgia, she lived in McMinn County most of her life. She was a loving wife and mother who gave generously of her time and talents of homemaking and gardening and worked as a nurses' aid at Athens Regional Medical Center and in food service at Central High School. Naomi enjoyed helping people, and during her life she shared her generous spirit whenever she was-with family, friends, church, and community.

She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Englewood where she taught the Beginners in Sunday School, sang in the choir, and shared the beauty of her flowers.

She was the daughter of William W. Fowler and Alice Davis Fowler, and proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Fred (Jack) Shadden, one infant son, brothers Melton R. Fowler and Earl Fowler, and sister, Geneva Fowler Sutton.

Survivors include one brother, Willie J. Fowler of Oak Ridge, and daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis Brock and Eva Raye and Bill Danner of Athens her grandchildren are Randy Brock, Mark Brock, and Amy B. Fleming, Jennifer Mauss, Heather Danner, Laura Fugate, and Travis Danner. She is survived by eleven great-grandchildren and three nieces.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home in Etowah. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1pm Wednesday prior to the service. Family and friends will proceed to Mars Hill Cemetery after the service for the burial.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Englewood or to the charity of one's choice.
