Obituary

Nathan Bivens, 71 of Athens passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 after 10 plus years battle with cancer. He was a son of the late Chester Nathan and Ruby Choat Bivens. He was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church where he attended all his life; He served on the McMinn Co. ASCS and FSA committee and has served as chairman; he was a farmer and a retired McMinn Co. school bus driver; and he served in the US Army, during Vietnam War. Preceded in death by his parents.

He was a person who loved people, he loved animals; his hobby was riding in his wagon pulled by his mules and going on wagon trains and camping with his special friends.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Lou Bivens; special friend, Eugene Eaton; step-son, Chad McLemore; camping friends, Charles and Helen Boyd; other very special friends and cousins to numerous to mention.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2016 at Wesleyanna United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert J. Burns and Rev. John Crabtree officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.

Interment will follow service in Goodsprings Cemetery. Joel Sherlin and Steve Smith will be driving his wagon pulled by his mules to the cemetery.

Charles Boyd, Tommy Bookout, Richard McCowan, Danny Cooper, Leon Hufford and Joe Hufford will serve as pallbearers.
