Obituary

Nolan Gross, born on September 24, 1958, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Starr Regional Medical Center. A devoted family man and esteemed member of his community, Nolan’s life was marked by service, dedication, and an enduring love for those closest to him.

Nolan proudly served his country as a US Navy veteran. Beyond his professional career, he was deeply committed to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Etowah Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was also a valued member of Carlock United Methodist Church, where his faith played a guiding role throughout his life. Nolan was a retired truck driver.

Among Nolan’s proudest accomplishments were his beloved grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to his life. He is remembered not only for his steadfast work ethic and military service but also for the warmth and generosity he showed to his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howell "Lefty" Gross and Margaret Gross Smith; his step-father, Robert "Private Red" Smith; brothers, Tracy Gross and Butch Gross; sisters, Barbara Gross and Kitty Tucker; brothers-in-law, Cecil Hicks, Grayson Hicks, and Larry Wallace; and sisters-in-law Geraldine McKeehan and Mildred Martin.

Nolan’s loving survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Hilda Gross; children and their spouses Zane and Shaunte Gross, Robbie Rogers, Jeremy and Heather Rogers, and Ashley Rogers. He also leaves behind a cherished circle of granddaughters, Hannah Adams, Stassi Gross, Jasmine Moses, Sanaa Long, Lilli and Willow Rogers, Chloe and Lainee Rogers, Zayla Gross; grandson, Landen Adams; his brother, Quince Gross; sisters and brother-in-law, Maxine and Bill Roberts and Katie Wallace, as well as a brother-in-law and spouse, Eddie and Robin Hicks; sisters-in-law, Sharon Smith, Margaret Land, Debbie Gross, and Gail Gross; a special brother-in-law, Roe Tucker. Additionally, several nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends will honor his legacy.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Humberd officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday prior to the service.

Interment will follow the service in Sunrise Cemetery.

Zane Gross, Jeremy Rogers, Robbie Rogers, Eric Gross, Landen Adams, and Jesse Gross will serve as pallbearers.
