Obituary

Opal Lee Webb Dickson, 88, of Athens, died Thursday afternoon, February 25, 2010 at her residence. A native of Monroe County and resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Annie Tallent Webb. She was a member of Englewood First Baptist Church, and was a former employee of Proffitt's Department Store. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Ben C. Dickson on June 28, 2008; a brother, Kenneth N. Webb; a sister, Edna Hazel Webb; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Dickson Overly. Survivors include one son, James Linton Dickson of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Brodie Noel Weir of Athens; two grandchildren and spouses, Steven Weir and wife April of Athens, and Kristal Weir Pettis and husband Brian of Tucson, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Chelsey Weir of Athens; two sisters-in-law and spouses, Doris Jankowski and husband Ernest of Miami, Florida, and Joyce Greenwood and husband, M.L. "Bill" of Marion, Virginia; and one brother-in-law, William "Bill" Overly of Somerset, Kentucky. A special thank you to caretakers, Sara Alsaffar and Courtney Gimblett, and to Amedisys Hospice Services.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Sunrise Cemetery in Englewood with the Rev. Greg Harper officiating. There will be no visitation held.
