A native of Etowah, former resident of North Carolina for many years, and Etowah resident for the past 37 years, she was a daughter of the late David Edgar and Ada Mae Kelly Crockett. She had worked at Johnson's Department Store in Etowah for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Thomas Melton; a sister, Sue Crockett; and a brother, Troy Crockett.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Pruette Carter of Greensboro, N. Carolina; one granddaughter and spouse, Lynn Carter Brandus and husband Mark of Alpharetta, Ga.; one grandson and spouse, Bryan Lee Carter and wife Danielle of Charlotte, N. Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Chris Brandus, Kate Brandus, and Grace Brandus; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, David and Dixie Crockett of Etowah, Herbert Crockett of Chattanooga, and Derward and Helen Crockett of Etowah; two sisters, Lula Mae Crockett and Sharon Crockett Coltharp, both of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 in the South Chapel with Dr. Robert J. Burns officiating. Burial will follow the service at Green Hill Cemetery. Deacons from First Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.
