Peggy Pangle Hicks, 72, of Etowah passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edd and Vista Pangle of Maryville. She was born in Englewood and moved to Maryville at a young age. She graduated from Porter High School in 1957 and married Carl Hicks in 1958. They moved to Etowah in 1965 to pursue a career with the L&N Railroad. Peggy was a homemaker and mother, she worked at Proffitt's Department store from 1982-1990 and worked at the Fashionique in Etowah from 1990 to 1999. She was well-known and loved by many of her customers. She was a vital and beloved member of the church family at Delano Baptist, and she was a founding member of the Xi Delta Zeta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi - where she was a participant for nearly 40 years and achieved the highest honor of Order of the Rose. She loved being in the backyard with her grandchildren, reading, shopping, playing cards, visiting with her friends, watching sports and spending time with her husband. Mimi, to those she most loved, was a family matriarch, a strong will, a quick wit, a kindred spirit, a best friend, a stylish dresser, an amazing cook and a lovely woman to know. Mimi left us too soon, but she did not leave us unprepared, and we, her loved ones, find solace in knowing that she will always be in our hearts to guide us. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Carl Hicks; a daughter, Carla Adams of Riceville; a son and his wife, Scott and Tawnya Hicks of Cleveland; and a daughter and her husband, Chris and Anissa Ingram of Etowah; granddaughter and her husband, Tara and Brett Comerford of Athens; step-grandson Justin Adams of Etowah; and granddaughters Abbie and Emma Hicks and Caroline and Gracie Ingram; extended family members Becky and Joey Kincaid of Etowah and their daughter and her husband, Emily and Frank Clark of Chattanooga; two brothers and their wives - Lewis and Cindy Pangle of Maryville and Roger and Brenda Pangle of Decatur, Ala.; a sister-in-law Juanita Greenway and a brother-in-law Ray Hicks, both of Maryville; several nieces and nephews; and countless special friends. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. John Powers and Dr. Harold Curtis officiating. Sorority sister, Brenda Walden, will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and will proceed to Greenhill Cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial. Pallbeares will be Thomas Brown, Lester Woody, Claude Bradford, Harry Johnson, Johnny Solsbee and Don Bowman.
