Obituary

Phyllis Jane Daugherty-Firestone of Cleveland, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025 at the age of 80. She was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and her family is comforted knowing that she is in His presence.

She had three children, but she was a Mother to many. In addition to being the Pianist for Chestuee Baptist Church for many years, Phyllis lovingly led children's programs that included the Southern Baptist Bible Drill, Sunday School, Bible School and Girls in Action (GA's). She believed in prayer and she taught the children around her to pray for even the smallest things in life. She adored all of her children.

She had an adventurous spirit. Phyllis studied foreign language and culture. She cultivated friendships across diverse backgrounds and she loved meeting new people in her education endeavors and through her work. Phyllis encouraged her children to be free and explore, finding ways to be a part of their every day. They remember her best advice being, "I cannot always tell you what to do. You have to pray and seek the Lord's will for your life."

She had an incredible thirst for knowledge and an insatiable work ethic. Phyllis worked at Life Care Centers of America Headquarters for over 20 years, and she and her best friend, Gregory Beavers, established Firestone-Beavers Bookkeeping, which became her daily inspiration. She loved working alongside Greg, and she loved her clients.

Phyllis looked for ways to uplift others.  She was vivacious and she was incredibly funny.  She found humor throughout every day and most circumstances. She fought any type of worry and she made every day fun for those around her.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, James Gaylord Daugherty and Ruby E. Nichols Daugherty, and her precious son, Mark Dewayne Firestone.

Survivors include son, Michael A. Firestone, daughter, Karen J. Firestone-Muntean, their father, Boyd L. Firestone, son-in-law, Paul V. Muntean, and her best friend and business partner, Gregory Beavers.

Phyllis will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Chestuee Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes.
