Phyllis A. Guffey, age 76, of Athens, TN passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Parkwest in Knoxville, TN. She was the daughter of the late Fred Long; mother and step-father, Nellie L. Gaines and Robert T. Gaines. Preceded in death by her parents, listed above; daughter, Catherine M. Simpson; sister, Jeanene Morgan; brother-in-law, D.P. Morgan; niece, Teresa Morgan. She was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church and was born in Pinehurst Community in McMinn County. She lived in Athens, TN and was the Secretary at Athens Lawn and Gardens.

Survivors include one son-in-law Robert Simpson; two granddaughters and spouses Felicia and Alan Clapp and Alexis Simpson; one nephew and spouse David and Sharon Morgan; and one great nephew Matthew Morgan.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy McCarter officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the funeral home 9:00 a.m. and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 10:00 a.m. committal service.
