RACHEL ALIUDEAN "DEAN" ADAMS DERRICK
Rachel "Dean" Derrick, 89 of Etowah, TN passed away January 8, 2017 at Starr Regional Healthcare Center in Etowah. She was born in Farner, TN on February 24, 1927. After graduating from Ducktown High School, Rachel worked at Fontana, TN. Later, she moved to Oak Ridge, TN in the 1940's where she worked for the Tennessee Eastman Corporation which ran the Manhattan Program that developed the atomic bomb. While there, she met her future husband, Otto Derrick, who was also employed by the Tennessee Eastman Corporation. When World War II ended, Rachel married Otto Derrick and they returned to his hometown of Etowah, Tn. She became a homemaker after the birth of her two children: Patricia Ann Derrick and Jeffrey Alan Derrick. Mrs. Derrick has been a member of North Etowah Baptist Church and the Sunday school class of Sarah since 1947. She is known for her kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity. Rachel enjoyed cooking, traveling and painting.
Mrs. Derrick was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Derrick; parents, Luther M. and Ethel Adams; sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Marion Morrow; brother and sister-in-law, Wade and Garnette Adams; brother, Ray Adams; sister, Alene Davis; and brother-in-law, Bobby Hopkins.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patricia Wheeler of Harrison, TN; son, Jeffrey Derrick of Etowah, TN; grandchildren, Wendy Stough and husband, Jacob, April Blankenship, Katie Derrick, Ashley Mobley and her husband, Anton "A.J.", and Dr. Michael Derrick; great-grandchildren, Jackson Dickson, Bennett Blankenship, Camden Blankenship, Violet Mobley and Eve Mobley; sister-in-law, Betty Adams; brother-in-law, Jack Davis; sister, Lennie Stansbury and husband Lee; sister, Madge Jackson and husband Don; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Wade officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow service to Green Hill Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
