Ralph "R. L." Haney, 96, of Etowah, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at NHC of Athens. He was a native of McMinn County, a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church, and Etowah Masonic Lodge 653. R.L. was a retired brakeman with L&N Railroad and he taught the Adults Men's Sunday school class for many years. He was an ordained speaker, a member of the Scottish Rites, the historical society, and an active member of Contact for many years. He was also on the board of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and a big supporter of Greenville Children's Home. He is the son of the late George and Della Elizabeth "Haney" Haney and is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Sue Haney; his parents, listed above; daughter, Jane Hale; grandson, Tim Cain; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and son-in-law, Ronnie Cain. Survivors include his daughters, Gail Cain of Etowah and Glenda Wallace of Chattanooga; 5 grandchildren, Cindy Buckner and Bobby of Athens, Greg Cain and Patty of Etowah, Jeff Cain of Cleveland, Neal Wallace of Cleveland and Heather Farley of Chattanooga; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 1, 2013 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow. Rev. John Roberson and Rev. John Crabtree will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m., Monday, September 2, 2013 and proceed to Green Hill Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m., committal service.
