Retha Mae Shankle, age 80, originally from Hampton, TN, a long time resident of Etowah, TN departed this world Sunday, September 10, 2017 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Retha was loved by everyone that knew her, always doing for others. Making quilts and growing flowers was two of her favorite pastimes. However, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her passion. There could be no deeper love. Retha is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jack Shankle (1987) and her beloved son, Timothy Gregory Shankle (2003).

She left behind to cherish her memory 6 children and their families, Denise (Zebbie) and David Discepoli, Grace and the late Dewight Martin, Bobby and Yvonne Shankle, Kem and the late Rickey Taylor, Paul Shankle, and Deidre and Patrick Ensley who generously cared for her; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Along with two daughter-in-laws, Lanetta Frye and Teresa Hall.

There will be a celebration of life Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Miracle Lake, 182 County Road 498 Etowah, TN 37331.
