Obituary

Robert Carson Slack, 94, went home to be with the Lord Friday night, June 23, 2017 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Richard and Callie Wilson Slack. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ruth Harris Slack; one son: Robert Carson "Bobby" Slack Jr.; three brothers: Ray Slack, Paul Slack, and Troy Slack; one grandson: Jason Stiles.
He was an active member of Wildwood Baptist Church where he was also the oldest member. He spent his life working hard, having retired from Athens Stove Works after 40 ½ years and then working at Bi-Lo grocery store in Etowah, TN for 18 years. He finally took a break one day after his 90th birthday. The years he spent in both places left him with fond memories and countless friends. In his free time he was an avid gardener, fisherman, and storyteller. He always had a story to share and anyone who was blessed to hear him tell it, was blessed indeed. He loved bluegrass music and spent many afternoons listening to it and shelling pecans. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, and his church. His life was long, very blessed, and ended peacefully.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Stiles; one daughter-in-law: Dianne Slack; three grandchildren: Rusty Stiles, Jennifer Slack Green and husband Adam, Chad Slack and wife Crystal; four great grandchildren: Karson Lehman, Korbin Lehman, Lani Slack, and Chloe Slack; three sisters: Betty Rowland, Nellie Sneed, Ruth McElhaney; one sister-in-law: Mary Lynn Slack; two brothers-in-law: Jack Collins and Allan Harris and wife Ann; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Those who touched his life are too many to mention, but there are a few who were very special to him; Dr. Vickie Turnbough, Carl Lynchlyter, the home health nurses from Guardian Home Health Care, the staff at Etowah Healthcare, and the staff at Starr Regional Medical Center. There are not enough kind words to express the families gratitude to you and all you have done for him.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at McMinn Memory Gardens with Dr. Bill Vest officiating. No formal visitation will be held.
